Connect Knowledge to Personas
After uploading knowledge to your Knowledge Library, the next step is to connect relevant sources to your personas. Each persona can have different knowledge sources enabled based on its specific role and purpose.
Why Selective Linking Matters
Your Knowledge Library contains all your expertise, but not every persona needs access to everything. By selectively linking knowledge:
- 🎯 Focused responses - Personas only use relevant information
- ⚡ Faster processing - Less knowledge to search through means quicker answers
- 🎠Role-specific expertise - Support personas focus on FAQs, sales personas on pricing
- đź”’ Information control - Keep sensitive content available only to specific personas
đź’ˇ Example: Your default persona might have access to all 47 knowledge sources, while your support persona uses only 4 sources (FAQs, troubleshooting guides, product docs, and changelog).
Understanding the Knowledge Library Connection
The Knowledge Library serves as the foundation for all your personas:
- Upload once - Add content to your central Knowledge Library
- Link selectively - Choose which sources each persona can access
- Reuse content - The same knowledge source can power multiple personas
- Update centrally - Changes to a source automatically update in all linked personas
How to Link Knowledge to a Persona
Step 1: Access Persona Settings
- Log in to your MyClone dashboard
- Navigate to “Personas” in the sidebar
- Select the persona you want to configure
- Click on “Knowledge Sources” or “Settings” tab
Step 2: View Available Knowledge
You’ll see a list of all knowledge sources from your Knowledge Library:
- âś… Enabled sources - Currently linked to this persona (highlighted or toggled ON)
- â• Available sources - In your library but not linked to this persona (toggled OFF)
- 📊 Source count - Total number of enabled sources displayed (e.g., “4 of 47 sources enabled”)
Step 3: Enable Knowledge Sources
To add a knowledge source to this persona:
- Find the knowledge source you want to enable
- Click the toggle switch or checkbox next to the source name
- The source is immediately enabled - no save button needed
- The persona can now access this knowledge in conversations
Example from video: Enabling the “Changelog” knowledge source for the support persona so it can answer questions about recent updates.
Step 4: Disable Knowledge Sources
To remove a knowledge source from this persona:
- Find the enabled knowledge source (toggle is ON)
- Click the toggle switch to disable it
- The source is immediately removed from this persona
- The persona will no longer use this knowledge in responses
Example from video: Disabling the “AppSumo Launch” knowledge source from the support persona because it’s not relevant for customer support queries.

Best Practices for Linking Knowledge
1. Start Minimal, Add as Needed
Begin with a small set of core knowledge sources:
- âś… Start with 3-5 essential sources
- âś… Test the persona with those sources
- âś… Add more sources based on gaps you discover
- ❌ Don’t enable all sources from the start
2. Match Knowledge to Persona Purpose
Align knowledge sources with what the persona needs to do:
- Support personas → FAQs, troubleshooting, product docs
- Sales personas → Features, pricing, case studies
- Educational personas → Courses, tutorials, best practices
- Brand personas → Company values, mission, content
3. Review and Update Regularly
Keep your persona’s knowledge current:
- đź“… Monthly review of enabled sources
- âž• Add new relevant sources as you create them
- âž– Remove outdated or irrelevant sources
- 🔄 Update existing sources with new information
4. Test After Linking
Always test your persona after enabling or disabling sources:
- Chat with your persona
- Ask questions related to the newly linked knowledge
- Verify the persona responds accurately
- Check that disabled knowledge is no longer referenced
5. Monitor Performance
Track how your persona uses different knowledge sources:
- Which sources get referenced most often?
- Are there sources that never get used?
- Do users ask questions you don’t have knowledge for?
- Are responses accurate and helpful?
Managing Multiple Personas
When managing several personas, keep track of which knowledge each uses:
| Persona | Purpose | Knowledge Sources Enabled | Total Count |
|---|---|---|---|
| Default | General inquiries | All sources | 47 |
| Support | Customer help | FAQs, docs, troubleshooting, changelog | 4 |
| Sales | Lead conversion | Features, pricing, case studies, testimonials | 6 |
| Onboarding | New user help | Getting started guide, tutorials, quick start | 3 |
đź’ˇ Tip: Create a simple spreadsheet to track which personas use which knowledge sources, especially as your library grows.

Common Questions
Do I have to link knowledge when creating a persona?
No, you can create a persona first and link knowledge sources later. However, your persona won’t be very useful until it has knowledge to draw from.
Can I link the same knowledge source to multiple personas?
Yes! That’s the whole point of the centralized Knowledge Library. Upload once, use everywhere.
What happens if I update a knowledge source?
When you update a knowledge source in your library, the changes automatically apply to all personas that have that source enabled.
Can I see which personas are using a specific knowledge source?
Yes, you can typically view this from the Knowledge Library interface, where you’ll see which personas have each source enabled.
What’s the maximum number of knowledge sources per persona?
There’s no hard limit, but we recommend being selective. More sources can dilute your persona’s focus and slow down response times.
Do disabled sources stay in my library?
Yes, disabling a source from a persona doesn’t delete it from your Knowledge Library. It just removes the link for that specific persona.
Troubleshooting
Persona not using newly enabled knowledge?
- Wait a few minutes for the system to process the link
- Refresh your browser
- Try asking specific questions related to that knowledge
- Check that the source was fully processed in the Knowledge Library
Can’t find a knowledge source to enable?
- Make sure you’ve uploaded it to the Knowledge Library first
- Check that the upload/processing completed successfully
- Refresh the knowledge sources list
Persona giving outdated information?
- Check which knowledge sources are enabled
- Verify the knowledge source itself is up-to-date in the library
- Consider disabling outdated sources
